The Ultimate Outdoor Experience

Bermanzi translated means "The Mountain where the Water is".

The Bermanzi Mountain Retreat is nestled on the edge of the escarpment between the Mpumalanga towns of Machadodorp, Waterval-Boven and Badplaas situated in the northern part of the Drakensberg. It is only two and a half hours from Gauteng by motor vehicle.

Accommodation is provided in a luxury self-catering mountain lodge, two self-catering chalets or in the 'Stables' for larger groups.

Bermanzi offers you an outdoor experience beyond compare. Breathtaking mountain valleys with indigenous forests and rock pools that can be explored on either the Bermanzi Day Trails (varying in distance between 4km and 12km), or the Oom Paul's 2 Day Backpackers Trail (between 9km and 13km) in collaboration with Five Assegais Estate .

Few places offer the awe inspiring setting that Bermanzi has to offer, and together with the thought and care that the owner has put into the facilities, it has created trails that are sure to be a favourite among hikers and nature lovers for years to come.

The more adventurous can indulge themselves in horse riding, abseiling or rock climbing. The hiking trails are very popular and if one is lucky you might be able to spot some bushbuck or kudu amongst the indigenous, wild forest. Trout fishing can be arranged at a nearby farm on request.

There are many bird species to be seen too. The trails are rich in cultural and historical sites like genuine Bushman rock art paintings, ancient kraals as well as sites of the Anglo Boer War.

There is plenty of time to cool off in the refreshing waters of one of the many rock pools. It is breathtaking to take in the magnificent sight of the Bankspruit Waterfall, which is the second highest waterfall in Mpumalanga. It is truly a must-see!
