Hiking TrailsBreathtaking mountain valleys with indigenous forests and rock pools can be explored on day trails, returning to the Stables, or on an overnight hiking trail, sleeping the first night in the Stables and the second night in the "God's Window" camp on the adjoining Five Assegais Country Estate and then returning to the Stables (or you can start from Five Assegais side and sleep the first night in the "Gods Window" Camp and the second night in the Stables and then returning to Five Assegais Estate). The trails all enjoy Green Flag Status.THE BERMANZI DAY TRAILS The Bermanzi day trails vary in distance between 4 km and
13 km. They are rich in cultural and historical sites, like genuine
Bushman rock art paintings, ancient kraals, as well as sites of
the Anglo Boer War.There is plenty of time to cool off in the refreshing waters of one of the many rock pools. It is breathtaking to take in the magnificent sight of the Bankspruit (also known as the Bride's Leap or Uitkoms) Waterfall which is the second highest waterfall in Mpumalanga. It is truly a must-see! Click here for a description of the Bermanzi day trails. Click here to download the map of the Bermanzi day trails in PDF Format. 2-day Oom Paul Backpacker's Trail (10,5km and 10km) is of moderate difficulty.
You can start from either the Bermanzi or Five Assegais sides. From both sides you are gradually descending through rapidly changing sceneries of impressive rocks, krans, bush, mountain streams and waterfalls, to the Bankspruit Gorge. You go through an indigenous forest with a great variety of trees and birdlife. You also pass cultural and historical sites. You often follow the contour also used by bushbuck, kudu and mountain reedbuck with beautiful views over the Komati Valley and the Waterfall.
