BERMANZI DAY HIKING TRAIL - Enjoys Green Flag Status

Green Flag TrailsWelcome . I hope you will enjoy your stay and the natural wonders of nature during the hike. Take care of yourself and the nature you will be passing through. The route is marked with white footsteps and there are poles with numbers at strategic spots to help you. It is essential to have the hiking route map and this route description at hand to guide you on your hike. It is important to note that the route can be slippery during rainy weather at the cliffs and heights. Small children must be accompanied by adults.

Look out for the signs along the road specially at junctions marked: Bermanzi Day trail / Dagroete and follow the arrows.

THE LONG ROUTE (12 km)
Begin at pole no. I near the chalets. Descending on the wagon road towards pole no. 2 where the path splits. Look at the SIGN BOARD and follow the BERMANZI DAY TRAIL to the RIGHT. Proceed through the awesome stone gorge ( Die Skeur) towards poles no 3, 4 . Follow this path until you get a sign Bermanzi Day trail/ Dagroete and follow the same way as the Num-Num Trail downhill through the beautiful indigenous bush until another junction . Follow the sign Bermanzi Day Trail to the RIGHT . Walk on and look out for another Bermanzi Day Trail sign were you turn RIGHT again towards Pole no 7 At pole no. 7 turn RIGHT again towards pole no. 8, 9 and 10.Between pole no. 8 and 9 you may look for the remains of ancient terraces and kraals - they are, hard to spot in the undergrowth. Note that you have to be careful wherever you cross the Bankspruit because the rocks can be slippery especially in rainy conditions ! Continue until you see the sign and white footprints on the rocks were you have to cross Banksruit. Follow the path and white footprints towards the bridge at the large swimming hole at pole no. 23. This is a good spot for picnic and swimming during the summer. (Take note - do not cross the bridge at pole no. 23 - stay on the Bermanzi side of the spruit.) MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW THE BERMANZI DAY TRAIL/DAGROETE SIGNS AT ALL THE JUNCTIONS and the white footprints. Ignore the green hands. From pole no. 23 proceed towards pole no. 12 where you turn RIGHT and cross the bridge over the Bankspruit. Following the route alongside the spruit, passing another nice picnic and swimming spot, continue until you reach the large hanging bridge . Take care not to take any trail going uphill on the other side of the Spruit. Make sure you see the Bermanzi Day Trail/ Dagroete signs and white footprints and follow those that will lead you uphill on the Bermanzi side of Bankspruit. Climbing the steep route uphill towards pole no. 22. You will be surprised WHEN YOU SUDDENLY GET A VIEW ON THE MAGNIFFICENT UITKOMS WATERFALL. At pole no. 22 turn RIGHT to view the amazing waterfall from underneath. (Important notice - Do not cross the spruit toward the other side). Turn back on the same route until you reach pole no. 22 again but keep straight towards pole no. 15. At pole no. 15 you turn RIGHT again passing the SAN cave and the Giant Yellow Wood tree and uphill toward pole no. 16 on the edge of the escarpment. From here you can walk towards the waterfall to have a view from above. You can turn back and follow the edge of the escarpment towards pole no. 17 and back to the hikers accommodation. Have a refreshing shower, relax around the campfire and braai.

DAY TWO
You have a choice of several shorter routes. Consult your map for more details. We recommend:
From pole no. I to 18,19 down the wagon road towards pole no. 20 where you could proceed towards pole no. 21, 22 having a look at the waterfall again - if you wish. From there you can take the previous days route back to the accommodation.

Enjoy a warm shower and lunch and drive home safely to return soon.
